2. Term Paper on Media Usage
When it comes to my personal media usage I will be focusing mainly on the many phone applications that I use daily. It’s really eye opening for me to realize how much I rely on my phone in different aspects of my life. The apps that I am discussing help me in various ways; from entertainment to productivity to creative outlets, I’m on my phone probably 10-15 hours a day!
Making Money
Everclear App: As a professional spiritual advisor, I rely on this application to bring in money. This is an interface that allows me to charge clients by the minute for divination and astrology services. I try to make a certain amount daily so I spend a lot of time on this app.
CashApp: I also take donations from my personal clients, usually they opt to use cashapp because of the easy access and quick transaction. I love the features on cashapp like savings, investing, and borrow option.
Communication
I use different social media accounts to communicate with different groups of people in my life. For instance my three instagram accounts, one for friends, one for spiritual service clients and one for my art business. Since Facebook is where most of my family is that’s where I post my personal life updates and family pictures.
Entertainment
My most used apps would definitely fall under this category, because in my downtime or while I do mundane tasks I try to keep myself entertained with videos and music. I spend hours a day consuming YouTube content, I watch anything that captures my attention in the moment, mostly cooking videos, celebrity drama, true crime, educational and conspiracy theories. When I’m not watching YouTube content I am listening to music on Apple Music or podcasts on Spotify.
Productivity
Atracker App: I live a crazy life and I’m always busy, with kids, businesses, school, and sometimes I need help focusing on all the many tasks I need to do. Atracker is a super helpful task management tool for me that allows me a visual representation of where all my time goes. As you may see in the image that big red chunk of pie represents my YouTube usage showing I used YT over 34 hours in the past 30 days.
Goodnotes App: For note taking for my classes and personal reasons I use the goodnotes app because it’s clean, easy to use, it’s one of the most responsive and aesthetically pleasing note taking apps I’ve found and I have tried many of them.
Home App: This is also a task tracking app but this one is for my kids, once they complete a task they get points that they exchange for treats or special treatment.
Leisure
In my downtime when I’m not too busy I love to play games, my favorite ones are Redecor which is a creative interior design simulation game and Little Alchemist which is a game where you combine the elements to create new objects, for example combining water and air create a cloud. I love apps and games that allow me to explore my creativity.
In reflection of my media usage I’m sure I use my phone more than average but I am super grateful for all the different aspects of my life that I can support with these different apps. At times I do get a little overwhelmed with being so dependent on my phone, in those moments I tend to try to do some outside or mindfulness activities.
